Answer:
The "Indian Standard time (IST)" has been fixed according to the standard meridian which runs through 8230’E. This longitude passes through the "Shankargarh Fort, Mirzapur" in "Allahabad" district and in the state of "Uttar Pradesh". The "Indian Standard time" is calculated on the basis of this and is fixed for the entire country. The "Indian Standard time" is 4 minutes ahead of the Greenwhich Mean Time, therefore the IST is 5.5 hours ahead of GMT.
