The village life that existed during his time was the central theme of Munshi Premchand ’s novels. His writings had a social meaning. These novels are designed to arouse the reader to the unrelenting facts of life in the rural areas of India. He chose his characters from real-life experience. The themes he covers in his novels are untouchability, the poor condition of women in Indian society. Besides this, he discusses the problems faced by tenant farmers and the harsh attitude of the Zamindars etc. Therefore, his work reflects the social condition of the Indian people.
