you can make an Electromagnet by taking a soft iron core and by covering it with a rounds of 200 to 300 of A copper wire and putting the two and to a potential difference for a cell or even a battery when the electric current is passed through the coil it will behave as an Electromagnet generating a magnetic field around it

Answer:

At first rub off the dirt or rust on the surface of the iron nail. Then rap around the copper wire on the iron nail for 75-100 rounds. Connects the both ends of the wrapped copper wire with the positive and negative terminals of the battery. Then the iron nail will become an electromagnet.
