Marshall McLuhan's idea of a global village was one where communication was done in real time in all parts of the world just the same way people did in the villages. He viewed the communication network as some sort of earth nervous system where everyone in the world, in every part of the world would be connected to the source of information and would be able to retrieve information quickly.
