Most of the common people of Germany were indifferent to Nazi barbarities. We should note that Nazi barbarities were targeted against well defined racial groups like Jews and the Slavic people of Eastern Europe. In the initial years of Nazi rule, the majority of the German people actually benefited from the economic improvement that took place under the Nazis. Racial prejudice against Jews were also fairly deep rooted among Germans. Hence, they did not see any reason to actively oppose the barbarities of the Nazis.

There were, of course, honourable exceptions even among the Germans who actively opposed the Nazis. In fact, there were even assassination attempts against Hitler to stop him from implementing his evil policies. But those attempts failed.

Towards the end of the war, as it became clear that Germany was losing the war and that Germans would be punished for their crimes, many Germans claimed ignorance of the barbarities of the Nazis.

Reaction of Masses against Nazi Barbarities:

Nazi barbarities were started in Germany. It was very much causing trouble to the civilians. They organized many concentration camps in which they killed lots and lots of Jews. The considered Jews as the sub-humans and started to treat them either slaves or killed then brutally without any valid reason.

The civilians were becoming more intolerable and started to show their opposition slowly. Many events such as campaigns and rallies were conducted by them and it came to an end at the end Second World War.
