Natalya is a young unmarried girl of 25yrs . she is the daughter of chubukov and lomov is their neighbour who mention her as a good housekeeper and not bad looking . She is educated and average looking girl .She was thirsting for love as her father called her lovesick cat.She is quarrelsome ,she starts fight with Lomov for piece of land which doesn't worth much for her.She is even greedy natured girl who doesn't show much respect until she comes to know that Lomov has come to ask her hand in marriage .
