Occurrence :

Mitosis is also called somatic cell division because it occurs in the somatic cell of the animals.

It also occurs in the gonads for the multiplication of undifferentiated germ cells.

In plants, it occurs in the dividing meristematic tissue and also in leaves, flowers and fruits during growth.
