Description of pre-fertilization events:
The following events are considered as pre-fertilization events:
- Gametogenesis
- Transfer of gametes.
Gametogenesis:
- It is the procedure of development of gametes.
- Male gametes are shaped inside the anther. It include microsporogenesis and microgametogenesis.
- The female gametes are shaped inside the ovules and include two stages megasporogenesis and megagametogenesis.
Transfer of gametes:
- Seed formation requires fertilization. In this procedure, the "pollen grains" from the anther are moved to the stigma.
- It germinates on the stigma and arrive at the ovule through the tube like structure formed by the pollen.
- The male gametes are then discharged close to the egg.
