In Iyengar’s short story "Ranga’s Marriage", we find that Ranga’s notions about marriage undergo enormous changes, the moment he lays eyes on Ratna. Although, she is young, Ranga cannot take his eyes off her. Ratna is uncomfortable in front of Ranga, because she is only eleven. Ratna naturally feels shy in front of Ranga, who is a complete stranger to her. Ranga also is uncomfortable and steals furtive glances. He tries to get a good look at her, but is unable to do because of the presence of an elder. The first meeting of Ranga and Ratna has all the shyness, innocence and discomfort of youth. Nevertheless, there is something endearing as well, in the first encounter between Ranga and Ratna.
