The author and his grandmother were very close when they were in the village.When they moved to the city the author went to school in a motor bus and learnt English and science which upset the grandmother,she was disappointed that he was not taught about god and religion and when he began taking music lessons she stopped talking to him .When he moved to the university the common link of friendship snapped.He was given a separate room.The grandmother accepted her seclusion and spent her time on the spinning wheel and feeding her birds in the afternoon.When the author decided to study abroad she was not happy but did not show her disappointment and accepted it silently.
She came to send him off at the station and kissed him on his forehead,which showed her love for him.When he returned after five years,though she did not speak to him she hugged him and in the evening she collected the women of the neighborhood and sang “the return of the warriors” which shows he love and affection to her grandson.
