Soil Conservation is the name given to a handful of techniques aimed at preserving the soil. Soil loss and loss of soil fertility can be traced back to a number of causes including over-use, erosion, salinization and chemical contamination. Unsustainable subsistence farming and the slash and burn clearing methods used in some less developed regions, can often cause deforestation, loss of soil nutrients, erosion on a massive scale and sometimes even complete desertification.
Soil erosion removes the top soil that is necessary for organic matter, nutrients, micro-organisms that are requires for plants to grow and shine. Soil conservation is one such step that protects the soil from being washed away. The soil then ends up in aquatic resources bringing in pesticides and fertilizers used on agricultural land. Healthy soil is important for plants to grow and flourish. Taking necessary steps to conserve the soil is part of environmentally friendly lifestyle. ✾ Answer of your question ✾
⦿ How soil is formed?
✤ Soil is a layer which covers the earth and is formed through weathering of rocks.
① Sometimes rocks have a crack between them due to continuous struggle with the Hot and chilled environment. During rainy season, The cracks in the rocks filled with water and when the temperature decreased, The water stored in between the rocks form into ice. This ice expands and breaks the rocks in to two halves.
②Birds eat the fruits and carry their seed to place. Sometimes they drop the seeds between the cracks, When the seeds found a favourable condition to germinate, They starts growing into big trees. This can Make the rock broke into two halves again.
③ River is continuously flowing. In this journey, River carries Small rocks ( As big rocks are heavy, it cant be moved through flowing water). These small rocks get stroke with those big rocks (which sank below the water). This continuous striking make the rocks to form soil.
⦿ How can we conserve soil?
① We should plant tress, which firmly hold the soil and prevent soil erosion.
② We should build terraces and adopt the terrace farming method. This can also prevent soil erosion.
③ Crop rotation. Continuous Planting of same crop can lead the soil to loose its fertility.
Thanks!
