The problems associated with construction of dams on rivers are as follows:
1.Social Problems:
Due to building up of dams a large number of people living in a particular area for centuries get displaced or rendered homeless.
2. Economic problems:
The construction of dams involves the spending of huge amount of public money. It does not generate proportionate benefits.
3. Environmental problems:
Construction of dams requires a large area of land. Due to this construction it leads to deforestation and enormous loss of biodiversity. A vast variety of flora and fauna and medicinal plants get submerged in the water reservoir and are damaged and disturb ecological balance.
