describe symbiotic mode of nutrition with example
Answers
OR
Symbiosis is mutually beneficial association existing between two organisms and both organisms derive benefit from each other without causing any harm to each other. Examples: Leguminous plants shows symbiotic nutrition mode. Alga and fungus live together. Fungus provides water and shelter to alga. In return, alga provides food prepared by photosynthesis.
OR
It is a mode of nutrition in which there is an interaction between two different organism living in close physical association with each other.
It can be of 3 types-
1.Commensalism - association between two organism in which one benefits and the other neither gets hurt nor harmed. Eg. Dust mites in your bed who feed on our skin scales without harming us.
2. Mutualism - symbiosis that is beneficial to both organism involved. Eg. - bacteria in human intestine which get the food and shelter and in return help us in absorbing vitamin k and breaking down the food.
3. Parasitism - when one organism benefits on the other. Eg. - head lice who live on people's head and feed on their blood.

Answer- The above question is from the chapter 'Nutrition in Plants'.
Nutrition: It is the process of consuming and utilizing food to obtain energy for growth and maintenance.
Symbiotic mode of nutrition: It is the mode of nutrition in which both the host and the parasite (internal or external) share shelter and nutrients to live a life together.
Example:
The most famous example of symbiotic mode of nutrition is of a lichen, an organism which has a chlorophyll containing partner alga and a fungus.
⇒ The fungus present in lichen helps in providing minerals, water and shelter to the alga.
⇒ The alga uses the things provided by fungus and has chlorophyll in itself which helps in the process of photosynthesis.
This mode of nutrition is very helpful for both organisms.
