- The topography: Topographical variation such as mountains, plateaus and plains affect the thickness of a soil cover. In mountainous region, on the steep slopes, the top layer of soil is shallow and thin. Soil cover is always thick in plains.
- The climate : Climate factor like temperature and rainfall affect the soil formation. In the area of high rainfall and extreme temperature rock are easily weathered.
- The vegetation Cover : At time, plant grow in the these plant start penetrating in the crack and make them wider. As a result, cracks disintegrate into smaller pieces and help in the soil information.
- Time: Time gave maturity to the soil. Although, soil is renewable resource, yet it take thousand of years to develop a very thin layer of soil in the earth's surface.
