salivary amylase in saliva breaks starch into its simplest substance

ashely: can you describe it a little more please ?
Emily2608: Enzymes are biocatalysts that are substrate specific. Salivary amylase present in saliva is an enzyme that acts on starch and accelerates the process of it breaking down into simpler subunits that can be easily absorbed by the body. Starch digestion starts from the mouth and ends in the stomach by action of enzymes. If there is anything more you want to know then comment here. :)
