ADDITION REACTION is that reaction in which an unsaturated hydrocarbon is converted into saturated hydrocarbon by the reaction of Hydrogen in presence of Nickel.
                  H2C=CH2 -H2- H3C-CH3
Application:
It is used in the conversion of liquid vegetable oils into semi solids
Hydrogenation is used to convert alkenes and aromatics into saturated alkanes (paraffins) and cycloalkanes (naphthenes), which are less toxic and less reactive
Catalyst absorbs the reactant on its surface to make the reaction easier.
In addition reaction, hydrogen is added  to unsaturated hydrocarbon whereas in substitution -H is being replaced by -.Cl.
