Answers
The Anglo–Maratha Wars were a series of three wars that were fought between the Maratha Empire and the English East India Company.
The first war began with the support of the British to the Raghunath Rao’s bid for the office of Peshwa of the confederation. This war ended with the treaty of Salabai (May 1782).
The second Anglo- Maratha war was when Holkars(leading Maratha clan) defeated Peshwa Baji Rao II.
The third war was caused by an invasion of the Maratha territories by the British during the course of their operations against a bandit band known as Pindari. During this time, the forces of the Peshwa followed those of the Holker and Bhonsle against the British. This war concluded with the annexation of the Peshwa territories.
Overall these Anglo-Maratha wars established the British supremacy in India.
