The blood vessels that carry blood from the heart are called ARTERIES.

they have

1. thick muscular walls

2.thin lumen

they do not have

1. valves

they carry only oxygenated blood from the heart to the other parts of the body except the pulmonary artery which carries deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs for oxygenation.

lot of pressure is exerted by the blood on the arteries which make them the blood vessels through which pulse is measured(radial artery)

important arteries:

1.pulmonary artery (only artery that carries deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle of heart to lungs)

2.aorta (oxygenated blood from left ventricle of the heart to all the systems of the body)

3.mesentric artery (oxygenated blood  to the digestive system)

4.hepatic artery( oxygenated blood to the liver)

3.renal artery (oxygenated blood to the kidneys)
