As mentioned in the novel "The invisible Man" by H.G.Wells, the stranger's money had extinguished and he was unable to pay Mrs. Hall for his boarding. Mrs Hall asked him to vacate the room and this made the stranger desperate and he decided to rob the Vicar's house. It was early in the morning and the vicar's wife, Mrs Bunting was awakened by the sound of footsteps in the study. She awoke Mr. Bunting, the Vicar, who armed himself with a poker and came down the stairs. They could hear the movements in the study and even the rustle of papers and a match being struck. Through the gap of the door Mr.Bunting could see the desk, the open drawer and a candle burning on the desk. However, he could not see anyone inside. Both Mr and Mrs Bunting heard the chink of money and realised that the robber must have found the house keeping reserve of gold. When they went inside, they could not see anyone but heard a violent sneeze in the passage. The Vicar ran towards the sound, heard the kitchen door open and slam, but could not see anyone.
