Belgium in spite of being a small country has a very ethnic composition having 59% of Dutch people, 40% of French and 1% of Germans. Also in the capital city Brussels 80% are French speaking and 20% are Dutch speaking. The French speaking community although being a minority were relatively rich and powerful. And this led to the tensions between Dutch and French speaking.
The cause of resentment in Belgium during 1960 was the ethnic conflict on the grounds of language.
