Mr. and Mrs. Sivansankar are one of the main characters of "Leela's Friend" story. It was written by R.K Narayan.
Explanation:
- Both of these characters play an important role in Leela's life since they are her mother and father. Mrs. Sivasanker is a home-loving woman. She stays at home all day. Unlike her daughter, she is very suspicious of Sidda and is very rigid towards him.
- Mr.Sivasanker held similar opinions like his wife. At the end of the story, he purposed that a poor person should not live among the rich, and whatever happened with Leela he deserved it.

Leela's Friend
- Rasipuram Krishnaswami Iyer Narayanswami ( 1906-2001 ) is one of the most widely read Indian writers in English. 'Leela's Friend' is taken from his popular short story collection 'The Malgudi Days'. Leela's Friend is based on social classes, friendship and trust, prejudice and exploitation.
Character of Mr. Sivasanker:
- Outcome of the story says that Mr. Sivasanker is an officer. There are three members including him in his family, Mrs. Sivasanker and their little daughter Leela.
- They were searching for a servant. That time Sidda entered and asked, "Sir, do you want a servant?" Therefore it is clear that Mr. Sivasanker is a rich person.
- End of the story is too much pathetic because we see that Sidda is sent to jail for the suspicion in theft of a golden chain. But he did not steal it. It was Leela who kept it in tamarind pot. She did not remember it at the right time. At last Mr. Sivasanker confesses, "I will tell the inspector tomorrow... in any case, we couldn't have kept a criminal like him in the house."
- Here R. K. Narayan has nicely portrayed the vulgar picture of social classes. And it is known to the readers that Sidda was cruelly hunted by aristocratic Mr. Sivasanker. Innocent, lower class Sidda was called a 'thief'.
Character of Mrs. Sivasanker:
- Mrs. Sivasanker is a house wife. Unlike Leela, she had no soft corner for Sidda. Though he was given two meals a day and four rupees a month, in return he washed clothes, tended the garden, ran-errands, chopped wood and looked after Leela.
- He was not allowed to sit on their chair and at night he used to sleep outside the house.
- Even Leela disliked her mother because she was always worrying and abusing Sidda. That is why Leela asked her mother, "Why are you so rough?"
- Above description shows that Mrs. Sivasanker was very proud and after discovering the chain their prejudice became useless and Sidda was released from the prison.
