Ans: Sidda had been described in the story has a very responsible servant of the Shivashankar household and a reliable and constant companion of Leela. He performed all his duties faithfully and took good care of Leela. He had a great imaginative faculty and from his imagination spurng stories that enthralled Leela. He made her believe that he had the power to control the moon. He had no interest on studies and never learnt anything that Leela tried to teach him. He also had no idea how to prove his innocence when he accused of stealing the chain. He remained speechless throughout and fell victim beacuase he belonged to the lower class whose voice is never heard .

Sidda’s character:

• Sidda is one of the central characters of Leela’s Friend by R.K. Narayan. Sidda has been familiarized to us as a servant who is looking for service.

• Although he was just a servant he would keep himself tidy which fascinated both Mr and Mrs Sivasankar. Sidda had to wash clothes, incline the garden, run errands and chop woods and above all to look after Leela.

• He was very strong at the psychological of handling kids.

• His mind was so fast that he could instantly make any story which would gladden Leela.
