a) Alluvial soil
Characteristics : They are very fertile. They contain adequate proportion of potash. They are very productive soil.
Found : Found in northern plains.
b) Red and yellow soil
Characteristics : Are very useful for growing crops.
Found : They are found in eastern and southern part of Deccan plateau.
c) Black soil
Characteristics : Rich in soil nutrients. Poor in phosphoric contents .
Found : Mid part of the Deccan plateau.
d) Laterite soil
Characteristics : Very useful for growing tea and coffee . Most suitable for cashew nuts.
Found : FOUND in North East region.
e) Arid soil
Characteristics : Are not suitable for most of the crops.
Found : Found in Western part .
f) Forest and mountain soil
Characteristics : They are very fertile. Rich in minerals.
Found : They are found in hilly and mountain areas where sufficient rain forest are available.
