When electricity is passed through brine ,
Brine is nothing but NaCl with water.
During it's electrolysis NaOH , Hydrogen and Chlorine is liberated.
This is called chlor-alkali process because chlor indicates chlorine and the alkali indicates NaOH.
NaOH and and chlorine and hydrogen are important and have many uses and this is known as chlor-alkali process and has much important uses.
