Circumstances leading to outbreak of revolutionary protest in France were:

1. Social Inequality: The French society was divided into three estates namely the Clergy, the Nobility and the third estates which constitued common people. While the former two were priveleged, the third majority estates had people heavy on taxes.

2. Economical Problems: France was under huge debt due to 2 years of war that had drained it of its resources and over 2 billion livres.

3. Taxes: Poor financial conditions resulted in increase in taxes, mainly affecting the common people.

4. Denial of Rights: Common rights like the right to vote were not granted to majority of the people. This caused widespread resentment among the French middle classes and common people.

5. Increase in population & subsistence crisis: The population of France increased from 23 million in 1715 to 28 million in 1789 which resulted in increased demand of food grains and as a result, the price went high. Wages remained the same and disorder was created in France which led to subsistence crisis.
