–Mariners hanged the albatross around the neck of the ancient mariner as a symbol of penance. After the ancient mariner shot the albatross with his crossbow, all the crew members started suffering a lot. first they were caught in the silent ocean and then they all started to starve with hunger. To save themselves from the spirit of albatross they hanged the dead body ( carcass ) of the albatross around the neck of the ancient mariner to show that the mariner was now feeling guilty about the death of albatross and now he wanted to forgive them all.

Another one is as follows :
–The Albatross was hung around the Mariner's neck to remind him of his mistake. According to them the Ancient Mariner's sin of killing the Albatross was the sole cause of their troubles. So they hung the dead Albatross around the Ancient Mariner's neck. They thought that by doing this only the Ancient Mariner would suffer for his sin, not the others.

You write one of these.
