Answer: Sri Lanka is an island nation , just a few kilometers off the southern coast of Tamil Nadu . It has about 2 crore people , about the same as in Harayana.

1. Sri lanka has a diverse population. The major social group are the Sinhala - speakers (74%) and the Tamils -spaeaking (18%).

2. Among tamils there area 2 sub groups . Tamil nativesare called 'Sri Lankan Tamils'(13%). The rest , whose forefathers came from India as plantation workers during the colonial period, are called 'Indian Tamils'.

3. The sinhala - speaking people are buddhists , while the Tamils are hindus or muslims. There are also christians (7%) who are both Tamils and Sinhalas.
