There was a complex ethnic composition of the people in belgium.59 percent flemish speaking dutch, 40 prcent in Wallonia speak French(rich and powerful) and 1 percent speak German.

Dutch speaking were majority in country but minority in capital, because of which there were tensoins b/w the dutch and french speaking communities in 1950s and 1960s.
