The experiment that shows that the nature of friction limiting force depends on the nature of the surface in which this process is happening is as below:-
- A box of mass M is tied with string and another box off of same mass is tied on the other end of the string.
- The Other box is kept on a surface made out of wood when the first box is kept hanging through a roller.
- Due to gravitational pull, the first box will pull the second box towards itself but the wood here is the limiting force.
- Hence it will stop the box from moving now if we change the surface on which the second box is kept and instead of wood.
- A tile is used then the box will move down much more smoothly proving that surface of contact. All the material of surface decide the the limiting force of friction acting.
