A tunicate is a member of subphylum Tunicata and Phylum Chordata including animals with notochords and dorsal nerve cords. It is a marine invertebrate and like other chordates, has a notochord in early developmental stages which is lost as the metamorphosis is completed.  Being members of the Chordata, they are true Coelomates with three body layer formation. They also have a well-developed heart and circulatory system.
