He told Kernel Allyn how and why he followed his daughter right to her house. John mentioned his salary, prospects and his little code of living. John initially felt that Kernel Allyn would throw him out of the window but he kept talking. He even managed to make the old man laugh which he felt was a rarity. John bared it all after which Kernel Allyn started questioning him. John just asked for a chance and he told Kernel Allyn (Jessie’s father) that he would leave if he was not able to woo his daughter.
