Peninsula plateau(oldest landmass of india) was a part of Gondwanaland ancient supercontinent. Around 100 million year ago one of gondawanaland broken part i.e indian plate( including Peninsula plateau and some surrounding area ) make movement towards north (Eurasia plate). On the way to North when it reached around the reunion islands, layers of basaltic lava errupted on it due to active volcanic hotspot in that area. Further more around 60 million years ago when indian plate collided to Eurasia plate and formation of Himalaya takes place.
It can be divided into two regions-
1.) Central highlands(lies north of narmada river)
2.) Deccan plateau(lies south of narmada river)
Now some of characteristics of Peninsula plateau-
1.) table land composed of old crystalline, igneous and metamorphic rocks
2.) broad and shallow valley and rounded hills
