The universe was formed because of a vast explosion called as the Big Bang.
In a split second the universe expanded to a trillions of kilometers forming various small particles which then later took shape of the planets and various cosmos.
Well, according to the scientists, all the matter of the universe was contained a in a single point and when the violent explosion occured, all the matter contained in that point spread out and created the universe. This theory is called Big Bang Theory
According to many scientists , before the formation of the universe , there was a vast empty space and after the big bang massive amount of radiation was sent off forming matter

The big bang theory is the prevailing cosmological description of the development of the universe. under this theory space and time were emerged together a billion of years ago .. with the fixed amount of matter and energy that has become less dense as the universe has extended. after an initial accelerated expansion and the separation of four known fundamental forces the universe gradually cooled and expand . allowing the first subatomic particles and simple atoms to form .. Dark matter gradually continued to gathered a foam like structure of filaments and voids under the influence of gravity... Giant clouds of helium and hydrogen formed ..... then the planets were formed and slowly slowly the universe formed .....
