rainbow forms when sunlight is pass through water droplets because sunlight have seven colour and when it pass through water droplets , the water droplets is work as prism and we know that when sunlight or white light is pass through glass prism , the light is diverg into seven colour that we see

so, we see rainbow in sky

Hope it's help u .....

Rainbow formation is based on the principle of dispersion of white light. This states that when white light passes through a prism, it is refracted and splits up into 7 different colours, namely Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.

The water droplets in the sky act as prisms when it rains. The sunlight is a type of white light and is hence made up of seven colours. When the sunlight passes through the raindrops in the sky, the light gets split up into seven colours. This is because white light is made up of seven colours that travel at different speeds in different media. Red has the fastest speed, so it appears at the top while violet is the slowest and appears at the bottom.

The sunlight undergoes total internal refraction inside the raindrop and emerge out as seven colours. Many droplets together form a rainbow.

Hope this helps!
