Actually,French society was very unequal. It had 3 group or so called estates. The 1st estate was of clergies (preist) they were privileged and had to pay no tax. The second estate was for nobles which were the royal families. They too had privileges. The 3rd estate was of local merchants, farmers,artisans,shopkeepers,and many more.........they were forced to pay taxes and were ill treated.
