enzymes are biological catalyst which helps in maintaining proper rate of biochemical reactions... They are hydrolytic in action... They help in cleaving macromolecules into macromolecules... They act on the substrate and results in forming products of substrate...For eg: Enzyme lactase act on Lactose and thereby breaking it gives us product glucose +galactose...

- Some enzymes are used as therapeutic agents. e.g., streptokinase is used to dissolve blood clots. Asparginase is used for treatment of leukemia.
