Sri Lanka is a small island in the Indian Ocean which is about 65,610 square km. The country has maximum part as plains with mountains in the southern part.

Among the 99 % of ethnic composition of Sri Lanka, Sinhalese communities are major with 74% then are Tamils with 18% and finally include the Muslims.

Rest 1% population includes Burghers, Parsis and Veddas.

74% OF SINHALA SPEAKERS AND 18% OF TAMIL SPEAKERS. AMOUNG TAMILS THERE ARE TWO SUB-GROUPS , SRILANKAN TAMILS AND INDIAN TAMILS.

MOST OF THE SINHALA SPEAKING PEOPLE ARE BUDDHIST, WHILE MOST OF THE TAMILS ARE HINDUS OR MUSLIMS. THERE ARE ABOUT 7% CHRISTIANS, WHO ARE BOTH TAMIL AND SINHALA.
