Prairies is a gently sloping hilly land which stretches from the west of Mississippi river to the foothills of rocky mountains. The great lakes of north America lie towards the east of prairies. The prairies are mainly drained by the Saskatchewan river in Canada and the Mississippi river and its tributaries in the USA.The north south extent of the prairies is about 6000 km, while the east west extent is about 2000 km.
