lichens occures one of the four basic growth forms , as follows :
- crustose - crustlike, growing tight against the substrate.
- squamulose - tightly clustered and slightly flattened like pebbles.
- folious - leaflike, with flat sheets of tissue not tightly bound .
- fruticose - free standing, branching tubes
