Before Miss Sullivan's advent in her life, Helen was living a frustrated life; she had so many ideas in her mind that she wanted to express; she had so many unanswered questions; apart from these, she had a faint recollection of days before she fell ill and became disabled. She felt living in the darkness and incessant silence. Her inability to see, hear and speak often were the cause of her tantrums. She compares that helpless state to a ship caught in the dense fog. However, Miss Sullivan's arrival brought joy, hope and uncountable blessings for Helen.

Helen was basically a normal child till her first nineteen months .she remembered the garden the all the flowers and she thought it was a paradise of her childhood then suddenly came a sickness with closed her eyes and ears and plunged her into unconsciousness of a new born baby .they called it acute congestion of stomach and brain . then one day the fever left her as suddenly and mysteriously as it came . but she could not see or hear anymore .she got frustrated and angry knowing she was different from other . then she got into mischief and then her parents decided that she must be taught then came Helen's teacher
