Pitcher plant has long pitcher-like structure hanging from the top of a leaf. The apex of the leaf form a lid which can close and open the mouth of the pitcher. The inner surface of the pitcher has hair directed downwards.

When an insect enters the pitcher, the lid closes and the insect gets entangled into the hair. The insect gets digested by the digestive juices secreted in the pitcher.
