Mark Twain received a letter from a lady who requested him to use his influence and help her in getting her work published. She mentioned in the letter that her uncle knew him and had met him sixteen years ago.

He wrote back to her that he was helpless in this situation. If he went to the publisher he would ask him numerous questions for which he would have no answers.

The publisher would be disgusted to know that Mark Twain did not know anything about the lady and her literature and could not provide any suitable information to build an estimate of her book.

At the end the publisher would be tired and would dismiss the idea altogether.

In this story "a helpless situation,an established writer recieves a letter from a women who requests him to promote her work to publishers. She has also informed Mark twain that her Uncle knew Mark Twain. But Mark Twain belives that in writing field only your ability and performance can
help you to rise and here you do not need any support.Besides that he was also concerned that the publishers would ask him a lot of questions.
