In forming compounds, atoms tend to gain electronic configuration of a noble gas.Remember that each noble gas(except he)has eight electronic configuration in the valence shell

The tendency of atom to acquire eight electron configuration in their valence shell, when bonding ,is called octet rule

The tendency of atom to acquire two electron configuration in their valence shell ,when bonding,is call duplet rule

FOR EXAMPLE:

hydrogen, lithium and berylium etc tend yo achieve two electron configuration in the valence shall

Answer:

Noble gas configuration for gaining stability.

Explanation:

Noble gases are inert in nature and they are considered as stable. They do not tend to oxidise or reduce to show any kind of reactivity. All elements tend to gain stability either by gaining or by losing electrons. In this way, they strive for completing their octet by having 8 electrons in the outermost shell. Helium has 2 electrons in its outermost shell while all other noble gases have 8 electrons. Therefore, all elements tend to gain noble gas electronic configuration which  is the hallmark of a stable atom.
