On 13 April 1919, In Jallianwala bagh, Amritsar people gathered for celebrating annual baisakhi function and some came for a peaceful procession but then General Dyer came there with him army and blocked the only door of going out and then opend fire on people and many people died. When this news spread peope in north eastern states came on roads and they attacked police stations etc. The govermnt also became very brutal and the satyagrahis were forced to rub their nose on ground and to salam all the sahibs. When Gandhi g heard about this he called off the satyagraha movement.
