The Jallianwalah Bagh Massacre, also known as the Amritsar Massacre was a massacre that happened in Amritsar, in 1919. It is named after the Jallianwala Bagh [Temple] in the northern Indian city of Amritsar. On April 13, 1919, British Indian Army soldiers started shooting at an unarmed gathering of men, women and children. The person in charge was Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer, the military commander of Amritsar.

It was the Baisakhi day and common people were not aware of the new law which prohibited common gatherings. Many people had come to the Jallianwallah bagh to celebrate peacefully but General dyer came there and open fired at the innocent people.

The walls were huge and people couldnt climb and escape so a lot of people jumped into a well, that was in the park, and commited suicide. Rest were killed by General Dyer and his soldiers.

That was a huge mass killing and is considered a dark day in Indian history.

Hope it helps
