Igneous rocks are those rocks which are formed by the cooling and solidification of lava from the volcanoes.  Above the Earth's surface hardening of lava takes place in the form of crystals.  The two types of rocks are Intrusive igneous rocks and extrusive igneous rocks.  Igneous rocks are also called volcanic rocks because they contain two or more minerals.
