1)Laying of eggs : after mating, the female silk moth lays eggs on the mulberry leaves.
2) Hatching into larvae: The eggs hatch into larvae or caterpillars, also known as silkworm. They are fed on the mulberry leaves for almost 3-4 weeks. They shed their skin by the process of moulting and the caterpillr grows in size.
3)Formation of cocoon: After they grew in size , they cease to feed and begin to grow in pupa. then they secret filament like substance from their salivary glands .
this secretion is made of protein called fibroin.they swing their heads from side to side in the form of cocoon.the pupa covers itself from the silk fibres and this covering with the pupa inside is called cocoon.
4)Emergence of a silk moth: Inside the cocoon, the pupa develops into an adult moth.
