The problems a candidate faces in contesting elections are quite a few in number, the major ones among them are as follows:
1) He or she generally fights the election as a representative of a recognised political party in order to stand a chance of winning the election. A lot of issues have to be accepted by the candidate based on the party's dictum, even though he may have lofty ideals.
2) A lot of cash, mostly black money, swirls around during an election. The candidate, if he is honest, finds it difficult to digest, but still is unable to wriggle out.
3) Independent candidates have to spend a fair amount of money in order to keep pace with the ones belonging to the Congress.
4) New candidates have very little time to impress the voters in the constituency even though they may be highly qualified otherwise.
