latitude: an imaginary line from west to east on globe ...there are 180 latitudes in globes...these help geologists and archeologist to measure time all over ,world with respective IST(indian standard time),helps to locate places on globe,temperature and climatic conditions .longest latitude is equator.

They are the imaginary horizontal lines drawn on our globe represented as latitudes equator is the well known latitude to us the main one which is designated as 0degree.there are 180latitudes in which they are divided into north and south the equator is not North nor south.in north 90 and in south 90latitides r present .At the poles the latitudes are just points .It helps us to know the location and the grid helps us to know about the time.....
