The Great Indian Desert is located majorly in Rajasthan (60%), and extends to a small extent in the states of Punjab, Haryana, and till the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat, and forms a natural boundary in between India and Pakistan.
Almost 75% of the desert is in India, and 25% of it is in Pakistan. With an area of 320,000 sq.km, the desert contributes to 10% of India’s total geographical area.
The desert is basically divided into two parts: The Marusthali region in the west, which is a very dry region, and the part of the desert in the east is a semi-dry region with lesser sand dunes and comparatively more precipitation.
